Welcome to the Del Mar Yacht Club
|

The Beginning - Opening Day
- Wednesday - July 16, 2008
- Seabiscuit SkyRoom (Limited to 170 Guests)
- Killer View. Two outdoor patios - a smaller one that you can "lean on the rail" and get a great view of
the track action. And then there is the "Big Bubba" that offers great views of both the Pacific Ocean
and the track. You can also "lean on the rail" of that one as well.
- Outdoor tables on the Big Bubba. Includes free Pacific breezes and sunshine. Shade or Sun tables.
Can't get any better than that. Of course, you can choose to remain in the air-conditioned comfort
inside of the SkyRoom. It has many individual tables that offer unsurpassed views of the "track
action."
- Delicious Del Mar Deli Buffet Lunch from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. You will enjoy it. Yummy! And it is included
in your ticket purchase price.
- Large, easy to use shaded buffet table on the Big Bubba. You can attack that thing from two directions
so that you can quickly erect your own "Dagwood Sandwich" to your liking. "Seconds" are allowed.
But, be careful on this one, and pace yourself. Your barge can quickly become over-filled. Burp. FOD
on deck. Clean up on Aisle 3. Sweepers, sweepers...
- Cocktails, wine, beer, coffee, decaf, tea, and soft drinks are served on the Big Bubba and inside the
SkyRoom at our very own private watering holes. The coffee, decaf, tea, and water are free. So are
the ice cubes. The rest (sorry, mate) you have to pay for yourself - right out of your own prize money.
Two holes this year. You can also order a bottle of your favorite champagne or wine for you and your
special guest to share.
- Two wagering windows inside the Seabiscuit SkyRoom with live parimutuel attendants, and three easy-
to-use wagering machines in the SkyRoom. Yikes! Five ways to place a bet. No waiting lines here.
- Giant Infield video monitor so that you can clearly and easily see what is happening throughout the
race - even on the back stretch. Binoculars are no longer required (unless you want to peep at the
crowd below). It's great.
- Plenty of video monitors inside the SkyRoom so that you can easily "view the action" from the Del Mar
track and paddock, as well as the rest of the tracks that are racing that day. View the "odds", etc. on
one screen, view the paddock on another, view races at other tracks on another. And you can wager
on any of the races at any of the tracks - right from "our" SkyRoom.
- Lot's of audio outputs so that you can easily "hear the call" from the Trevor.
- The Del Mar Yacht Club has sponsored a race every year. Two lucky Club individuals will be selected
to be photographed in the Winner's Circle with the Winning Horse, Jockey, Owner, and Trainer.
- Rest rooms just a few steps away.
- Doors Open at 11:30 a.m.
- First Post at 2:00 p.m.
- Smoking is allowed on the outdoor patios.
- Cigars, Cigarettes, Cigarillos. Pipes. No tobacco inside the SkyRoom, please. It's your body, mate, but
please respect ours.
- Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.
- Del Mar, California.
- Reservations Now available! Click here

Latest Update - 8/10/08 (at eight bells) - Updates that popped up today: Home Page, Closing Day.
Closing Day event for the Del Mar Yacht Club is cancelled this year due to
lack of ticket sales. Sorry. We will try again next year.
For the first time, the Del Mar Yacht Club is offering "stuff", other than
tickets, for your enjoyment. Click here for details. Stuff will be available
for shipping shortly.
Please pay close attention to this: The Del Mar Yacht Club is not affiliated financially with any organization mentioned
on this site: not musicians, not beaches, not boats, not restaurants, not hotels, not racetracks, not nothing. We can
point you to some great spots that we think that you may like, but we are not getting any bucks from any of them for
doing so. And don't you be pointing pistols at us if you try a few of them and decide that you don't like them. You
choose an attraction or location that you like...and then stick with it. If you don't like it, then move on. Clear 'nuff?
And Away They Go!
Tickets for the Del Mar Yacht Club Opening Day and Closing Day activities are available for purchase now (as of 5/15/08).
Hold your horses, and hang on to your saddle horn. You, as a previous guest, have first priority. You will get first crack, but the
time to crack is right now. We have already sent you 2 email notifications (if you gave us your email address). Once we get your
doubloons via PayPal and receive a PayPal confirmation, all you must do is check "The List" to make sure that your name is there,
and then check inside your saddle bags when you arrive at En Fuego. There will be a ticket in there waiting just for
you...somewhere between the hardtack and bacon. Boing!
Nobody will be allowed to "cut in line" in front of you if you act quickly. Conduct a couple of clicks here and you are in. But, you
better get underway and right away - because the tix are up for sail now, and if you don't capture them...then another pirate will.
And it will happen. Fast. And that's the way it is, because it is what it is. And it always was.
Now, cast off the lines, and weigh anchor. The List is growing longer each day. (Uh - as of 6/10/08, The List has reached its end).
Here is The List.
Ahoy, mates. All hands muster. Snap to, and heave to. Sweepers, sweepers - man your brooms
(see # 11). This prevents "FOD." FOD has been known to occur on Opening Day (burp).
Red Shirts and Brown shirts - muster on the flight deck now. Check out "N" for an explanation.
We will probably need purple shirts before Opening Day is over. In fact, we will probably need all
shirts on board before this thing is over.
Heave To
Opening Day and Closing Day Festivities will only be offered via our secure online service . PayPal is an online
ordering service. If you do not have a PayPal account, click here to see what it is all about. U can pay for products
via PayPal from the Del Mar Yacht Club or any merchant that accepts PayPal. PayPal accepts a credit card, debit
card, or a bank account. The Del Mar Yacht Club will never know any of your credit details.
The Del Mar Yacht Club Shopping Cart has only been underway since May 10th. It is still being developed and
refined. You may order tickets from the cart now. You will receive an email confirmation from PayPal shortly after
you place your order, and the tickets will be waiting for you at En Fuego. If you wish, you may order merchandise
now. However, the merchandise will not be ready for processing for a few more weeks.
- Your tickets will not be mailed to you, even though the cart indicates "free shipping." You must pick them up
yourself at En Fuego or at the Group Sales Will Call Window at the track. The reason that the shipping is free is
because the tickets will not be shipped! You must collect them in person in Del Mar.
- For Del Mar Yacht Club members who are due the $5.00 discount on your ticket purchase, we will get it to you.
Either cash in hand at En Fuego, or "at the box." But you will get it.
- Take advantage of this years two-month head start to secure your prized fun-time admission before some
other pirate does. And they will - if you are caught with your sails luffing.
- If any one of you mates have a problem with your order, or the ordering process, or would like to comment on
ways to improve it, click here and let Commodore Jim know.
- Now, let's get the fleet underway.
This site is updated frequently. It is both an eye test and a novel...with some facts thrown
in, just for the heck of it. Keep your eyes peeled, you scurvy-laden galoot.
No-Spam Pledge: The Del Mar Yacht Club will never rent, sell, or give away your email
address, mailing address, or telephone number to anyone for any reason. Simple, eh?
Don't you wish you could work this kind of magic on Opening or Closing Day? Egg, Lemon, Orange.
Check weather conditions / forecasts (del mar 92014, solana beach 92075) and traffic conditions and here on Opening and Closing
Days - so that you will know what to expect. Hint for all of you Dick Tracey's : Expect crowded roads, and plan accordingly. Best bet
is to arrive early. Why waste your time on the road in a traffic jam waiting to happen (unless that is your definition of excitement and
adventure), when you can be enjoying the view and activities at the track? Arrive early...take a walkabout...look at some pictures that
are all over the place. Learn some history. Acquaint yourself with the many amenities. Buy a shirt at Silks. Join the Diamond Club.
Or, hold your horses, and make a day of it! Forget the half-day at the office excuse. Enjoy breakfast at one of the local eating
establishments, and fun-on from there. Some offer free / nearly free shuttles to the track. Or call Mike at Vantage Cab
(760-613-6568) for a clean on-time van to transport your select group.
Special Top Secret Advice for Del Mar Yacht Clubbers - If you do not wish to fight the traffic grind at the track, park at the Solana
Beach Train Station. Click this too. And this. You can arrive at the station by auto, Amtrak, Coaster. Lot's of ways. San Diego
Trolley from Tijuana. Click this. Or Amtrak from Seattle - or anywhere else. Then, take the double-decker to the track - it is a only a
short one mile ride away. The deckers leave and return frequently. Leave the driving to them. Peruse the Union Tribune, Racing
Digest, and Daily Racing Form on the way to clue you in on your bets. Or gab with the neighbors. The time will pass quickly. Give
the driver a one buck tip each way. It's worth it. And you can even make it a 2fer, if you wish. Arrive / park at the station in the
morning, trot across the street to Mr. T's (Hey, Mr. T. - get your website in order). Enjoy a "down home style" breakfast, then take a
decker to the track. You can even take a walk on the beach in between those activities - you know, so that you "walk off" your
breakfast. Make a day of it...it only happens once a year. Take advantage of it. It is fun. It really is!
When the flag is up, you must act fast. We ain't kidding...and never have. Check below next year for 2009 details.
Note: If a link does not pop up on your first try, keep mashing the link. It will eventually get through.
